Health & Temperance Ministry

At the Clarksville Seventh-day Adventist Church, we embrace a holistic approach to life, recognizing the vital connection between our spiritual, mental, and physical well-being. Rooted in biblical principles, our Health and Temperance message emphasizes making wise lifestyle choices that honor God and promote abundant living. This includes nourishing our bodies with wholesome plant-based foods, engaging in regular physical activity, getting sufficient rest, and finding healthy ways to manage stress. We also advocate for temperance in all things, encouraging avoidance of harmful substances. Through education, support, and community, we strive to empower individuals and families to experience the fullness of life that God intends.

Eight Laws of Health

(NEW START)

The Eight Laws of Health, also known as the New Start Health Program, are a set of lifestyle principles advocated by Seventh-day Adventists. These principles are based on the teachings of Ellen G. White.

The 8 Laws of Health are:

  1. Nutrition: Consume a plant-based diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and nuts.
  2. Exercise: Engage in regular physical activity, such as walking, biking, or swimming.
  3. Water: Drink plenty of pure water throughout the day.
  4. Sunlight: Get adequate exposure to sunlight for vitamin D synthesis.
  5. Temperance: Avoid alcohol, tobacco, and other harmful substances.
  6. Air: Breathe fresh air outdoors whenever possible.
  7. Rest: Get sufficient sleep each night.
  8. Trust in God: Cultivate a spiritual life and trust in God's guidance for health.

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God — this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — His good, pleasing and perfect will.
